Celebrating International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month
Every year, people around the world celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th. The theme for 2021, was #ChooseToChallenge with the tag line “From challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge”. March 8th is a day to recognize the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and girls globally as well as raise awareness of the work left to be done to reach gender parity.
In light of International Women’s Day that occurred earlier this month and Women’s History Month, we would like to celebrate the women of Massey Capital. We asked Sandra, Anam and Rica to tell us about what this month and day means to them.
Sandra Kosziwka
Sandra Kosziwka is the Director of Finance at Massey Capital where she has overall finance, accounting and treasury responsibility for all portfolio companies. Kosziwka has an extensive +20-year background in Finance & Accounting including controllership, treasury, financial planning & analyses, and process reengineering.
“As Women’s History Month comes to an end, it is important to reflect upon the accomplishments of the many women who have fought hard against gender bias and inequality.
For me, it is a time to think about the women that have supported my personal journey. I am deeply grateful to each of them – my mom, sisters, sisters-in-law, friends, and colleagues.
It is also a time to think about my daughter and the other young women in my life, and my hope for them to live a life free of gender bias and inequality.
Finally, a thank you to my wonderful women colleagues at Massey Capital – Anam Chaudhry and Rica Lam. It is a pleasure working with you both.”
Anam Chaudhry
Anam Chaudhry is the Finance Manager at Massey Capital where she has senior finance and accounting responsibility for a portfolio of companies. Chaudhry has +8-year diverse background in Finance & Accounting from the property management, vehicle financing industries and auto repair industries. “Women’s History Month/International Women’s Day means something very simple to me yet made complicated and that is: We are all born equal and must continue to respect that equality without any bias. Women must be able to practice their rights and freedom to create a life and future they desire. It’s important to shed light on this month/day dedicated to women so it can bring awareness to those who think otherwise. It’s a great opportunity to learn, acknowledge, motivate and support women everywhere.”
Rica Lam
Rica Lam is a Corporate Analyst at Massey Capital supporting head office and portfolio companies’ management teams, providing review, support and analysis in M&A business development, marketing and finance.
“It is so important that we recognize and celebrate all that women have contributed during the past year. 2020 was a difficult year for all, and we had some amazing women who contributed immensely to combatting the pandemic. As a woman in the beginning stages of her career I am so grateful to those who have paved the path before me. This day and month allow the opportunity to not only remind everyone of improvements that have been made but also to raise awareness of key issues that still exist.”
